How to geotag photos

Frequently asked questions

What is geotagging?

Geotagging adds GPS coordinates to a photo's metadata (EXIF), recording where it was taken or which place it shows. Apps use it to sort photos by place, and it gives search engines local context, for example for photos of a business.

Is GeoImgr free?

Yes. With the free version, you can geotag and describe up to 5 photos at a time, with AI suggestions. With Pro, you can geotag up to 100 files at once, including videos, find places with Google Maps, post directly to Google Business Profile and add team members.

Which image format is best for geotagging?

JPG. Its GPS data is standardized in EXIF, so virtually every app and operating system can read it. In HEIC, PNG and WebP, support varies, and some viewers do not show it. GeoImgr exports JPG by default.

Can I geotag videos?

Yes. With Pro, you can geotag MP4, MOV and M4V videos just like photos.

How do I check whether a photo is geotagged?

Upload it to GeoImgr: if the photo has a location, it appears on the map. For JPG files, the file details in Windows (Properties) and macOS (Get Info) also show the GPS coordinates.

How should I write image descriptions and keywords?

Describe what the photo shows in one or two plain sentences, as you would in alt text. For keywords, use the terms your customers search for. GeoImgr's AI suggests both, and you review them before anything is saved.

Does Google remove metadata from uploaded photos?

When you upload a photo to Google Business Profile, Google receives the original file with its metadata, including geotags, and can store this information for search and ranking. Google does read metadata embedded in images (Image metadata in Google Images). Which metadata counts for ranking, and how much, is not public. The copies shown on Google Business Profile and in Google Search are optimized for speed and privacy, so their metadata is removed.

Do you keep my photos?

No. Uploaded files are deleted from our servers 24 hours after your last activity; the originals on your device are never changed.

How do I cancel my subscription?

Open the account menu and choose Me & Team, then Manage billing. Pro remains active until the end of the current billing period.
